Here’s How Your Wedding Expenses Can Pay for a Free Honeymoon

By | March 17, 2017

We all know that weddings are costly in Singapore. Sometimes, we might want to have a small and intimate wedding, but due to pressures from family and friends, we end up having a larger wedding than we would like.

The main victim here usually ends up being our bank account.

After the happy but often tiring wedding, what we all look forward to is the honeymoon. It’s the part of getting married that truly belongs to the couple.

Going to Europe or US tends to be the honeymoon destination of choice for many couples, but it can cost quite a bit. If you play your ‘cards’ right though, there are smart ways to go about paying less for your flight, or even getting it free!

Today we’re looking at travel credit cards, and specifically, those with attractive sign up offers that you can take advantage of!

Citi PremierMiles Visa Card

This card has one of the best sign-up offers around. When you apply for the card and charge any amount to it within the first three months, you get 15,000 miles. Now if the amount you charged is S$10,000 within the first three months you get an additional 15,000 miles.

Plan carefully and charge your wedding rings, wedding bands and bridal package to the Citi PremierMiles Card to make up more than S$10,000 within a short span of time.

You earn 1.2 miles for every S$1 charged to it and so, for S$10,000 charged, the card actually earns 12,000 miles bringing your grand total to 42,000 miles. 42,000 miles is enough to redeem a round trip ticket to Maldives or Perth.

ANZ Travel Visa Signature Credit Card

This credit card, like the rest, makes accruing miles a breeze. The ANZ card earns a high rate of miles at 1.4 miles per S$1 charged and offers promotional bonus miles based on your monthly expenses.

If you pay the annual fee of S$200 per annum, you receive 10,000 bonus miles. Now after paying this, if you manage to spend S$3,000 within the first month of acquiring the card, you can get a bonus 10,800 miles.

Add the actual rate of earning which is 1.4 miles for every S$1, and you get 4,200 miles for the S$3,000 charged to the card. This brings the grand total to 25,000 miles. All for the total spend of only S$3,200.

Consider charging your wedding banquet to your ANZ Travel Card, because even though it’s more than the required amount to earn bonus miles, the earn rate of 1.4 miles is still one of the best around. So you’ll earn more by placing excess expenditure on this card.

But what if you can’t spend the S$3,000 in one go? Well, the ANZ Travel Card will still reward you with a bonus of 2,000 miles for spending S$500 within the first month. You still earn 700 miles for the S$500 spend, thus bringing the grand total to 12,700 miles.

What’s more, you will earn 2.8 miles for every S$1 spent on Qantas and Jetstar airlines or on retail spend incurred in Australia and New Zealand. Perfect if you’re thinking of these places for your honeymoon!
