We all know that weddings are costly in Singapore. Sometimes, we might want to have a small and intimate wedding, but due to pressures from family and friends, we end up having a larger wedding than we would like.
The main victim here usually ends up being our bank account.
After the happy but often tiring wedding, what we all look forward to is the honeymoon. It’s the part of getting married that truly belongs to the couple.
Going to Europe or US tends to be the honeymoon destination of choice for many couples, but it can cost quite a bit. If you play your ‘cards’ right though, there are smart ways to go about paying less for your flight, or even getting it free!
Today we’re looking at travel credit cards, and specifically, those with attractive sign up offers that you can take advantage of!
This card has one of the best sign-up offers around. When you apply for the card and charge any amount to it within the first three months, you get 15,000 miles. Now if the amount you charged is S$10,000 within the first three months you get an additional 15,000 miles.
Plan carefully and charge your wedding rings, wedding bands and bridal package to the Citi PremierMiles Card to make up more than S$10,000 within a short span of time.
You earn 1.2 miles for every S$1 charged to it and so, for S$10,000 charged, the card actually earns 12,000 miles bringing your grand total to 42,000 miles. 42,000 miles is enough to redeem a round-trip ticket to Maldives or Perth.
This credit card, like the rest, makes accruing miles a breeze. In fact, it earns miles faster than any of the other cards we’ve talked about here. The UOB PRVI Miles earns a high rate of miles at 1.4 miles per S$1 charged. A good idea will be to buy your wedding bands or engagement ring with this card.
Consider charging your wedding banquet to your UOB PRVI Miles card, especially since the earn rate of 1.4 miles is still one of the best around. Most cashback cards exclude wedding banquets from bonus cashback, so you’ll earn more by placing the banquet expenditure on this card.
What’s more, you will earn 2.4 miles for every S$1 spent overseas. Perfect if you’re going to use your card to make payments during your honeymoon!
This card gives you a bonus of 5,000 miles when you charge any amount to the card for the first time. If you charge over S$2,500 in the next 3 months, which should be a breeze, you get an additional 5,000 bonus miles. You definitely should take advantage of this. For spending S$2,500 locally, you’ve got yourself 12,750 (5,000+5,000+2,750) miles!
The AMEX Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Card’s usual earning rate isn’t fantastic. It gives you 1.1 miles for every S$1 spent locally, and 2 miles for every S$1 charged overseas during June and December.
But you do get convenience and save on conversion fees since the miles are automatically added to your KrisFlyer account monthly.
Assuming you’ve made use of all the sign-up bonuses already, and you’re still left with your overseas hen’s night or bachelor party, consider the DBS Altitude Card.
We like this card because you get 3 miles per S$1 on hotel and flight bookings, and you’re not limited to specific travel partners or online travel agents to enjoy this. If you booked your travels through Kaligo or Expedia, you’ll get to enjoy up to 10 miles per S$1.
Just note that the extra miles on your travel booking have a spending cap of S$5,000 per month. Oh, and did we mention that the DBS points don’t expire?
All you need is planning, and to start early
With some planning involved, the right cards can offer you enough miles to finance your honeymoon and leave you with one less expense to worry about, so that your honeymoon is all the more memorable.
